If you’re the type of rider looking for a simple “twist-and-go” driving experience, then nothing beats a scooter. Automatic transmission allows you to focus entirely on steering and balancing making it ideal for navigating busy city traffic or stop-and-go situations. For two-wheeler beginners, there’s nothing better. So, for anyone looking for an effortless ride that lets you focus on the driving experience, scooters are usually best.

On the other hand, if you want to feel “at one” with your vehicle and enjoy complete control over your ride, then, nothing beats a motorcycle. Even more than a car, a motorcycle forces complete “presence” when driving and the added complexity of changing gears provides a unique ride and greater control especially on winding roads such as in Chamarel or on your way to Floreal for example. For those who enjoy the connection between rider and machine, this can be a big plus.

Storage space is a big differentiating factor between scooters and motorcycles. Scooters usually come with ample under seat storage compartments and motorcycles… nothing. Of course, you can always buy rear boxes for your motorcycle. However, not only do these come with an additional cost, they also impact the look of your vehicle and cannot beat the simplicity of lifting the seat of your scooter and storing your items there.

When it comes to weaving through congested traffic, scooters are the undisputed kings of the road. Their automatic transmission and light weight make them highly manoeuvrable and our Suzuki models come with ample under-seat storage that’s perfect for carrying your shopping bags along with you as well as hanger hooks for additional storage space. 

Motorcycles on the other hand tend to be larger and heavier making them less adept at weaving through traffic (though, we Mauritians are quite good at it!) but extremely comfortable and stable for longer rides. Of course, smaller sized motorcycles offer exceptional manoeuvrability as well, however at a cost to raw power (they usually come in lower CC’s) whereas even the most powerful scooter never compromises on manoeuvrability. 

Ok, this point is subjective of course, but it bears mentioning. The look of the vehicle you want to invest in and be associated with is important. Ultimately, despite all we’ve discussed above, this may just be the ultimate deciding factor when choosing your next ride. Scooters come in many different styles but motorcycles offer a wide range of models suited to different types of riders and driving experiences. When it comes to looks and versatility, they’re hard to beat. From small city cruisers to off-road bikes and bullet cruisers, motorcycles offer so much variety for the avid rider that they are still the undisputed kings of two wheelers on our roads.
